Why Do Animals Lick Salt?

They need to eat salt in order for it to work and encourage them to drink water. Additionally, salt maintains the fluid balance of the body.

Not every animal uses licking stones directly; some animals can meet their salt needs by licking the soil.

Grazing areas should also be provided for small or cattle grazing in pastures to be fed and meet their salt needs.

Salt blocks are placed at certain distances. There is no need to use salt blocks in herds using mixed feed.

The vegetative structure of pasture areas should also be checked for salinization needs. Salt blocks should not be used if there are plants containing selenium in the pasture area.

Salt Need in Lactating Cows:

Cows fed for milk need 2 grams of salt for every 1 kilo of milk they produce.

In addition, on average, a dairy cow weighing 500 kg requires 25 kilograms of salt.
